Palmetto Pride Grant Award  02/15/08

The Cayce Department of Public Safety is pleased to announce that it is the recipient of a grant from the Palmetto Pride Zero Tolerance Anti-Litter Organization. The grant was awarded to the city in its efforts to thwart litter and illegal dumping and identify those persons responsible for the acts.

Cayce Public Safety is a one of the more than 30 participating agencies around the state that have joined together in a state-wide anti-litter enforcement task force that continues on the “Zero Tolerance for Litter” policy.

The department will purchase night vision binoculars to utilize in low light sting operations in an effort to curtail litter related crimes. Cayce’s officers are delighted to have the equipment necessary to allow them to effectively pursue these violators and are grateful to organizations such as Palmetto Pride that make their efforts possible.

Scam Alert    01/04/2008

Our department has recognized a developing trend recently that involves individuals preying upon religious groups and relying upon their benevolence to extort money from them.

We felt that it is necessary to alert all of our religious organizations in the City of Cayce to this developing trend and ask that you inform your personnel and members and contact our department immediately if you encounter any similar situations as outlined below.

The ruse usually involves a phone call from either someone who claims to have attended the church or a supposed law enforcement official calling on their behalf. The person(s) claim to have some sort of financial hardship while traveling out of state and need additional money to pay a repair bill for their vehicle or other needs so that they may return to our state. Usually the person calling will have specific names of the pastor/preacher or other personnel at the church to add validity to their story.

I would encourage you to be very leery of any situations similar to the one mentioned and I would ask that you share this information with all organizations that may fall prey to this type of thievery.
